Best Breakfasts in Manchester
If flipping pancakes is too much hassle then here are some great places in Manchester to get your sweet or savoury fix.
These places aren't just good for Shrove Tuesday though, they are good all year round.
Carla Tomlinson opened Penelope's Kitchen in Media City four months ago. She said: "I used to live in New York so I chose the name Penelope's because that was the name of the place I used to get coffee. We love pancakes, they are one of our biggest sellers. It's second after the bacon butty but before the full English.
"Our most popular is definitely the Danny Radman pancake. When I first moved to New York I was working as a waitress and Danny came in one day. We had both just moved to New York and we just hit it off straight away. We became really good friends, he's even godfather to my son. He's flown over twice and when he comes over he serves and everything. He's our lucky charm, I named an ice cream after him too."

Nick and Harry van Breeman first opened Moose Coffee in Liverpool but now their coffee shop/American diner is on York Street in Manchester too. Nick said: "We're a family business and we just thought that there aren't that many places to get breakfast other than greasy spoons or McDonald's. We go to America quite a lot and we just thought that kind of place could work particularly well over here.
"We developed our own pancake recipe by mixing together the best parts of other recipes.
"Our best seller is probably the pancakes with bacon but we also do the 'Double Dutch' which is smoked sausage and bacon mixed in with the batter."

Adeel Kahn and Saisal Mayetm opened their Urmston branch two and a half years ago after their cravings for pancakes when they came back from holidays in Europe became too much to bear.
